Berlin is full of art wherever you look. From the National Gallery to enormous paintings on the side of buildings to street graffiti, it is everywhere. The Berlin East Side Gallery is a collection of paintings on a 1.3km section of the wall in the centre of the city by 106 artists from all over the world, including Scotland’s very own Margaret Hunter and Peter Russell. It is an international memorial for freedom and was created in 1989-90. Since then it has been restored several times due to pollution damage, weather erosion and vandalism.
A walk along this open air gallery is definitely a must-see for those interested in art and the history of Berlin.
